Momentum’s only offshore wind farm is located on Gotland in Sweden. Bockstigen Wind Farm consists of five wind turbines and is one of the first offshore wind farms ever built. Momentum extended the lifespan of the five wind turbines in 2018, so they can now produce for many years to come.
This is also a testament to the age of the turbines and the resulting need for maintenance to ensure the best operation going forward. There is a great need for ongoing examination of the main cable, which lies on the seabed, as well as the foundations of the turbine towers under water. Until now, Momentum has had high maintenance costs to hire divers for the tasks, which has been both expensive and uncertain as the work is dependent on wind and weather. There is also a certain safety risk associated with having divers in the water.
After a local test of the complete equipment in Roskilde Harbor, we look forward to our service technicians in Sweden soon being able to use it actively as part of the ongoing maintenance of the park. Hopefully, we will soon be able to receive the first footage from the seabed.
The newly purchased underwater robot aims to significantly reduce maintenance costs for the park, while giving us much better control over how often we want to inspect cables etc.
